THE PROBLEM

You know exactly how this loaf’s week goes.

SATURDAY — 09:12

You carry home a loaf that crackles as it cools on the counter.
You carry home a loaf that crackles as it cools on the counter.

WEDNESDAY — 07:04

The same loaf. Stale in paper, sweating in plastic. Breadcrumbs, if it’s lucky.
The same loaf. Stale in paper, sweating in plastic. Breadcrumbs, if it’s lucky.

Good bread doesn’t go off. It gets stored to death.

WHAT YOU’VE TRIED

You’ve probably owned everything on this shelf.

01 — PLASTIC BAG

Keeps moisture in. All of it.

Soft crust, sweaty crumb, mould by Thursday.

02 — PAPER BAG

Breathes beautifully.

And dries the loaf into a husk by Monday.

03 — TEA TOWEL

The romantic option.

Works for a day. Then it’s paper with extra steps.

04 — BREAD BIN

Better air, same problem.

The bread inside it is still naked.

05 — CHEAP WAX BAG

Right idea, thin coating.

Cracks at the fold, fades in a month, smells faintly of paraffin.

06 — KEPT

Breathes enough. Holds enough.

Dense cotton, a proper weight of beeswax, a zip that seals it shut. That’s the whole trick.

HOW TO CHECK OURS — OR ANYONE’S

The bend test

Fold a corner of the fabric and hold it to the light. Real beeswax creases softly, then smooths back with the warmth of a hand. Paraffin coatings crack a white line along the fold and never recover.

If it acts like wax, you’ll know.

THE STORAGE STORY

The 5-day storage story.

An illustrated look at how a loaf may change through the week. Results vary by loaf, kitchen conditions and storage routine.

Day 1 sourdough bread test
DAY 1 — SATURDAY The loaf goes in at its best — crust crackling, crumb springy.
Day 2 sourdough bread test
DAY 2 — SUNDAY Crust firm, crumb springs back. Barely distinguishable from day one.
Day 3 sourdough bread test
DAY 3 — MONDAY First soft notes at the crust. Slices clean. No sweat on the cotton.
Day 4 sourdough bread test
DAY 4 — TUESDAY Edges firming. Best sliced slightly thin. Nothing damp, nothing wasted.
Day 5 sourdough bread test with customer reaction
DAY 5 — WEDNESDAY The Wednesday check. Past its best raw; excellent toasted.

HONEST LIMITS

What it does. What nothing does.

KEPT CAN

Help a good crust last further into the week.

Stop the plastic sweat that ruins a crust.

Zip shut in a second — no rolling, no clips, no guesswork.

Be wiped clean and reused, loaf after loaf.

Earn its place on your counter — or go back under the 60-day guarantee.

KEPT CANNOT

Make stale bread fresh again. Nothing can.

Keep a baguette crisp past day one. Nothing can do that either.

Hold warm bread — let the loaf cool first, or the wax traps steam.

Survive the washing machine, the dishwasher, or a warm radiator.

Make bad bread good. Buy better bread; we’ll keep it that way.

WILL IT FIT?

35 × 45 cm. Measured flat, honestly.

Room for a 1 kg boule, zipped closed. Or two 800 g tin loaves standing shoulder to shoulder. If your loaf is bigger than that, we’d like to meet your baker.

Bread stays fresher for longer

Amazing for sourdough! Bread last way longer with the beeswax lining. Great gift for anyone who makes sourdough

Very impressed!

Very impressed with these bags! Very good quality fabric and the bees wax side is very even and smooth! I am excited to see if it really keeps my homemade bread fresh and for how long. Will come back with an update.

Authentic looks, and works a charm

I'm not superstitious, but traditional tricks like this sometimes work like magic. I tried this old-timey-looking bag for the home crafted sourdough bread that we make, that was turning up moldy in the Tupperware bread box. This bag worked very well; we have kept the bread for two weeks, and that is a long time. (We usually finish it before two weeks!) The bread does not dry out, either. I can't say how it works for cookies or pie. We consume those items before they have a chance to spoil.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

Fair questions.

Will my loaf actually fit?+

The bag measures 35 × 45 cm flat and zips closed. That’s a 1 kg boule, or two 800 g tin loaves side by side. Most supermarket and bakery loaves fit with room to spare.

When will it arrive?+

Delivery to Great Britain is free and tracked. Estimated delivery is typically 5–12 days, including processing. Tracking details are provided after dispatch. Delivery times may vary by destination and carrier conditions.

Is it real beeswax, or a coating that just looks like it?+

A beeswax-based lining on dense cotton. And you don’t have to take our word for how it behaves: do the bend test. Real wax creases softly; paraffin cracks white.

Is it food-safe?+

Manufacturer-supplied food-contact test reports are shown on this page in full, rather than reduced to a marketing badge. See The Paperwork section above.

Will bread mould inside it?+

The cotton breathes, so moisture escapes instead of pooling against the crust the way it does inside plastic. Keep the bag somewhere cool and dry and check any loaf past day four — that’s simply how bread works, and no honest bag claims otherwise.

How do I clean it?+

Shake out the crumbs after each loaf. If needed, wipe with a cool damp cloth and a drop of mild soap. Never hot water, never the washing machine, never the dishwasher — heat melts wax.

Does it make the bread taste of wax?+

There’s a faint honey scent to the fabric when new; it fades and doesn’t transfer to the crumb.

Why does it cost more than the ones on marketplaces?+

The weight of wax and the density of cotton — the two things that decide whether a wax bag works — are exactly where cheap bags save money. Add manufacturer-supplied testing shown in full, declared materials and a zip that seals. A £9 bag that fails in a month costs more per loaf.

What if it doesn’t work for me?+

Try KEPT for up to 60 days. If it has not earned its place in your kitchen, contact us under the Fresh Loaf Guarantee terms. We won’t pretend bread stays fresh forever — but the bag has to keep its promises.
